I was born and raised in New Orleans and have always been drawn to anything old - buildings, historical figures, artistic techniques, etc. I studied history and art history in college, while painting and drawing whenever I could. I then went to graduate school for historic preservation. After a few years working for a local decorative painter and historic refinisher, I began painting more using techniques and ideas I had picked up through that time. My paintings reflect my interests, with a touch of whimsy and are meant to poke fun at the traditional rigidity of classical portraiture. Every portrait has a story because they reflect the life and times of that person. Learning those stories and then bringing them into the modern world through painting is what I enjoy doing.

Describe your art in three words. Humorous. Eclectic. Precise.

What do you love the most about creating art in New Orleans? What particular part of your immediate environment, in your neighborhood specifically influences your work? I love the history that is attached to every facet of New Orleans - art, architecture, cuisine, anything. I like being in a city where there are old buildings all around, reminding us of times and lives past.

Describe your creative process. Are there any rituals or rites of passage you exercise before you begin a new piece? I like to know a little bit about the person or subject matter I'm painting - whether I've read a number of books on the subject or just spent some time getting lost on Wikipedia.

Where do you draw inspiration? History. I'm a huge history nerd, and I love reading and learning about anything old.

Who are your artistic influences or gurus? John Singleton Copley, Ingres, Delacroix, any colonial folk art.

In New Orleans, art and music go hand in hand. What type of music, band or song lyric best describes your work? I'm all over the place when it comes to music - some days classical on 104.9, other days Dolly Parton.

Where can we find you when you are not creating art? Hanging out with my dog, Fabio.

What is your favorite time of day/day of the week/month of the year? Morning. Friday. October.
