What do you love the most about creating art in New Orleans? What particular part of your immediate environment, in your neighborhood specifically influences your work?

The best thing about creating art in New Orleans is the community. The history of the city is palpable and celebrated unlike any other place we have lived. We are very influenced by living in Algiers point and have taken inspiration from rides on the ferry and walks on the levee. We have begun incorporating found detritus from the river into our practice and are excited to see what happens. 

Describe your creative process. Are there any rituals or rites of passage you exercise before you begin a new piece?

We try really hard to create an environment of freedom and experimentation in our studio. Most things start from a line of questioning and a point of saying "yes" to each other. 

Where do you draw inspiration?

Community, laughing, story telling, food, music, our dog Pepe, books, podcasts, etc. 

Who are your artistic influences?

Keith Haring, Pee-Wee's Playhouse, Helio Oiticica, Bridget Riley, Jim Roche, assume vivid astro focus, William Onyeabor, Leigh Bowery, Juan Gabriel, Tarsila do Amaral, Katharina Grosse, Selena Quintanilla, Carlos Cruz-Diez, Fela Kuti, La Croix Soda Water, Iggy Pop.

We listen to this compilation a lot; it is a supreme goal to look like this sounds. 

Where can we find you when you are not creating art?

Riding bikes, hanging with friends at the Aquarium Gallery & Studios, eating at the Green Room at Kukhknya. 

What is your favorite time of day/day of the week/month of the year?

Late afternoon/Tuesday/Mardi Gras

What is something people don’t know about you? A fun fact.

We are obsessed with Guy Fieri and Flavortown in general.

Our studio is currently located at Canal Place. We are on the second floor next to Anthropologie at the SALON art space. SALON is a collaboration between the Arts Council of New Orleans and Canal Place. We open the studios every Monday from 1-6 PM and are happy to open the space to you by appointment.
