I am a figurative painter and illustrator from New Orleans, LA, I've been making art for as long as I can remember.
The people in my paintings are derived from a patch-work of source materials, creating imaginative but believable, everyday scenarios using vibrant colors inspired by this city's lush landscape.
I am a member of the Aquarium Gallery, Painters Painting Painters Group, Where Y'Art and one half of the Pop up Drawing Twins. I am a proud NOCCA alum with a BFA from Pratt Institute.
*****I will be out of town June 15 - end of August ! All orders will be fulfilled once I return!!!*****

Vibrant, Instinctive, emotional
Describe yourself in one word.

What do you love the most about creating art in New Orleans? What particular part of your immediate environment, in your neighborhood specifically influences your work?
New Orleans is so lush, I am always amazed with all the different plants that can grow here. Pink Sunsets and the sounds of cicadas and crickets that happen as the sun disappears.
Describe your creative process. Are there any rituals or rites of passage you exercise before you begin a new piece?
I often find poses I like on Instagram or in a magazine. Usually just use them as a starting point and go from there. I did a painting recently based on a perfume add in a magazine that is obviously meant to be 'sexy' or alluring. The people portrayed are disproportional and awkward. I think I take issue with the construct of "beauty"
Where do you draw inspiration?
I draw inspiration from people I see, usually ones that I don't know. I love the weird and the awkward.
Who are your artistic influences or gurus?
David Hockney, Kerry James Marshall, Alex Katz, Maira Kalman, Picasso
In New Orleans, art and music go hand in hand. What type of music, band or song lyric best describes your work?
I love most music. I especially love music that gives me energy when I paint. I think that a song that would best describe my work would be some kind of melodramatic love ballad.
Where can we find you when you are not creating art?
I am the Creative Director of the Kirschman Artspace at NOCCA in the Bywater, but I am mostly painting in my studio in the Bywater
What is your favorite time of day/day of the week/month of the year?
I love dusk in any season, the lighting is beauuutiful and the sky is usually my favorite color, pink.
