Mississippi River with Buzzards

This painting is from a 'bike derive' series comprised of images and scenes gathered while I bicycled around Greater New Orleans. This process of physically traveling, paired with the subsequent stillness of looking, served as a way for me to build a better understanding of the region. The piece encompasses some of the dissonance in the progress of the city: it is both active and melancholic, organic and industrial, beautiful yet ominous.
