This Rose Window piece is a step into new territory for me. I wanted to see what could be done in the combination between resin and laser-cut steel. I chose the Notre Dame North Rose Window to be the basis of the design. I simplified the geometry and created the cut-out design in Revit, an architectural modeling software. Then, I had the design cut into steel at Workhaus in New Orleans. I cut a plexiglass backing for it, and poured ink-dyed resin into the empty 'panes' and added a shallow backing frame of plexiglass and wood in which to mount led strip lights so it can be backlit by natural light by day and become a light fixture by night.
