My artistic practice for the last few years has been exploring impressions left from memories, how some stay bright and precious but others fade away to splashes of color, a word or a smell.
The Aerial View Series is my interpretation of the most remembered moments from family trips as a child- the views out of the plane window. The farmland in the mid-west zooming by with all these wonderful patterns, the Colorado Rocky Mountains getting tinier and tinier and the forest bisected with roads and towns. Many of the actual trips are fuzzy, much like I remember someone else’s description, rather than my own experiences. To this day, the land passing underneath me is still bright in my mind’s eye. The Aerial View series is an exploration of these remembered landscapes.

Follow this artistI started my creative career drawing on my parent's furniture. From that point on I took a ridiculous amount of workshops and received a BFA from Savannah College of Art and Design. In college, I focused on metalsmithing and discovered enamel. It was the perfect mesh of the two mediums I had fallen in love with. It opened up another world of techniques for me. In my current paintings, I'm using the materials much as I would with traditional enameling-layer upon layer. Each layer is interacting differently and sometimes unexpectedly with the one below it, creating a piece that varies wildly from my beginning expectations. Each paint stroke, a layer of resin, is as much an act of emotion as one of logic. These pieces give a little bit of insight into the artist to each person who views it.
