Raised in Mandeville, Louisiana, I have grown up with a passion for art. I graduated from Louisiana State University in 1994 with a BFA in Graphic Design and a minor in Painting. I worked in advertising for 15 years until I became a full-time fine artist/painter. My work has been exploring abstracts, landscapes & figurative work ranging from small to larger scale canvases.
My figurative process is precise, conversely, my abstract painting is more organic, having only a general idea of what the result will be. My process includes molding paste for texture, layering oil or acrylic on canvas or gesso board, then drawing with compressed charcoal and pencil for greater detail. I often use metal leafing to create illumination, texture, and richness. I love to explore new mediums to keep my work fresh & interesting.
My work is represented by several interior design businesses, along with public and private collections throughout the United States and Europe.
Questions & Answers
Describe your art in three words. Organic | Contemporary | Abstract
Describe yourself in one word. Innovative
Describe your creative process. Are there any rituals or rites of passage you exercise before you begin a new piece? Depending on what I am working on depicts my mindset. For figure work, my process is more precise, for abstract painting I have a general idea of what I think the result will be, but do not let this thought control what happens. Mixed media is used in most of my work - molding paste, acrylic, charcoal, pencil, & metal leafing create illumination, texture & richness.
Where do you draw inspiration? Nature, interior design, religious iconography
Who are your artistic influences or gurus? I have always loved Gaugin & Klimt where my figure work is derived from this. Also Georgia O'Keefe & Frida Kahlo.
In New Orleans, art and music go hand in hand. What type of music, band or song lyric best describes your work? Not sure what music describes my work but I love all genres of music alternative, classical, bluegrass, reggae, old school R&B.
Where can we find you when you are not creating art? Out for a run.
What is your favorite time of day/day of the week/month of the year? Dusk/Sunset.
