I am an avid printmaker and graphic designer specializing in screenprinting, but I also have a knack for print design and hand lettering. I graduated from Nicholls State University with a BA in printmaking. While attending, I also studied graphic design and English. My prints have been exhibited in the Ameen Art Gallery located in Thibodaux, LA. I currently teach a wide variety of printmaking and basic bookbinding techniques at The New Orleans Glassworks and Printmaking Studio. I am currently pursuing an MFA in printmaking and live in New Orleans.
Hilary Dugas is a New Orleans artist living and working in New Orleans and the surrounding areas.

Describe yourself in one word.

What do you love the most about creating art in New Orleans? What particular part of your immediate environment, in your neighborhood specifically influences your work?
What I love the most about creating art in New Orleans is that there is always something happening. From the major events to the hustle & bustle of everyday life, New Orleans is filled with all sorts of interesting characters that influence my work.
Describe your creative process. Are there any rituals or rites of passage you exercise before you begin a new piece?
The beginning of a new piece is usually inspired by an interesting word, story, or conversation combined with just an ordinary texture that I see in my daily life. All of the elements come together to create a visual texture and three dimensional space on a two dimensional surface. I create my composition and essentially break it down into the simplest form, and then reassemble it in the form of a screen print.
Where do you draw inspiration?
I draw my main inspiration from textures found in my surroundings, words, & typographic forms.
Who are your artistic influences or gurus?
My main artistic influences are Jean-Michel Basquiat & Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec.
In New Orleans, art and music go hand in hand. What type of music, band or song lyric best describes your work?
I would have to say alternative rock; my work is made from traditional methods and alternative methods of printmaking.
Where can we find you when you are not creating art?
You can find me developing new designs while binge-watching Netflix.
What is your favorite time of day/day of the week/month of the year?
My favorite time is after sunset in the winter. I'm a night owl.
What is something people don’t know about you? A fun fact.
